What is Engineered Hardwood?
Engineered hardwood is layers of wood (sliced veneers) compressed together with a stained and treated top layer. Engineered hardwood is made to look like real hardwood. Whereas solid hardwood is one solid piece through and through, stained and treated.
Can you refinish Engineered Hardwood?
It is possible to refinish an engineered wood, but you will find that an engineered hardwood floor with a wear layer thickness less than 2 millimeters thick can only tolerate a very light sanding. We do no recommended that you sand down and re-stain your engineered hardwood because the layer of veneer could be too thin. Unlike a solid piece of hardwood that you can refinish multiple times.
How do you take care of Engineered Hardwood floors?
Engineered hardwood floors can easily be maintained by sweeping excess dirt off your floors. It is also possible to use a vacuum to remove extra dirt but be sure to use the bare floor setting. If your vacuum has a beater bar and the setting is not turned off, you can dent and or scratch the floor. After sweeping, you will then proceed to moping. Just be sure that you are using a damp mop when mopping because your engineered floor is not waterproof.
What should I NOT do with Engineered Hardwood?
When caring for your engineered hardwood floor, you want to be sure you are not using any harsh chemicals to clean them such as wax-based cleaners, oil soaps or ammonia. As these harsh chemicals can be harmful to the construction of the flooring. Steam mops are also not recommended because this material is not waterproof and too much moisture can cause the flooring to warp. Be sure that you are not using a rough applicator when cleaning your engineered wood flooring, instead use a soft applicator such as a microfiber mop pad.
