Fun Fact:
Did you know that the United States carpet industry began in 1791? That’s over 200 years ago!
One can only imagine how the carpet industry has changed since then.
Choosing the right carpet:
When making a carpet selection it’s important to know what style is best for you.
Here’s a breakdown to help get you started:
There are 2 main types of carpet construction, a loop pile and a cut pile. A loop pile is when fibers are bent into small loops. Loop piled carpet is very durable with a low-profile look, although it is limited on its cushioning. Cut pile carpet is yarn with the tips cut off so there are not any loops. Cut pile carpet is known to be softer and denser than loop pile carpet. There are also carpet selections that offer both a cut and loop pile fibers, which is a combination of the two.
When considering the quality of carpet you want, it is best to consider the ounce weight and density of the carpet. The ounce weight of the carpet is to let you know how many fibers are within the carpet. The higher quantity of fibers the heavier the carpet will be and the high the quality. One way to check the ounce weight of the carpet you are looking at is to look on the manufacture's website. When you get to the website you will simply type in the style name of the carpet you’re looking at and look for the product description. If it is not located on the manufactures website a sales associate can call and provide that information for you. The density of the carpet is referring to the number of fibers within a pile and how tightly woven they are. The best way to determine the density of a carpet is to simply run your fingers through it. If you are able to feel the backing of the carpet, it might not be as dense as others.
